Proper Sauna is a mobile, wood-fired sauna business based in Marietta, Georgia—not exactly the heartland of sauna culture.

Sauna culture is growing across the country, but here in the South, the combination of hot summers and a healthy suspicion of anything from up North has made us a little slower to embrace it. We’re here to change that by creating a sauna tradition with a distinctly Southern character—even if it already feels sauna-like outside for four months of the year.

We built our mobile sauna the way we’d want one built for ourselves. We could have bought a Costco kit, bolted it to a trailer, and called it a day. Instead, we focused on thoughtful craftsmanship, quality materials, and local lumber whenever possible. The backrests, for example, were made from a cypress tree from Newnan, Georgia. Those details matter to us because a good sauna should feel solid, welcoming, and made to last.

To us, sauna can be whatever you need it to be. It can be a quiet, solo reset—a warm place to disconnect from screens, slow down, and carve out a moment for rest and reflection. It can also be a communal experience: a place to sit with family and friends, give each other your full attention, and sweat out the worries of the day.

But those are just our musings. The sauna experience is yours to interpret. It can be a wellness ritual, a spiritual practice, a social gathering, a post-workout reset, or a very convincing excuse to hide from your family for a while. We provide the heat; you decide what it means.
